TOP CENSORED STORY AUTHORS
ORGANIZING DC SPACE PROTEST EVENTS

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Contact: Bruce Gagnon (352) 3379274

SUNY Journalism professor Karl Grossman and Global Network Against Weapons & Nuclear Power in Space Coordinator Bruce Gagnon will receive Sonoma State University's "Project Censored" awards for articles they wrote in 1999 on the issue of space weaponization and the Ballistic Missile Defense system. Both stories were chosen as the 8th Most Censored story of last year.

Both Grossman and Gagnon will be featured speakers at major peace in space events now scheduled for Washington DC on April 1417.

· On Friday, April 14 the Global Network (GN) will organize a major protest at the Treasury Department to highlight the waste of billions of taxpayer dollars on Star Wars research & development by the Pentagon and aerospace corporations.

· On Saturday, April 15 the GN will hold an International Conference on Preventing an Arms Race in Space at American University. Speakers will include Rep. Dennis Kucinich (DOH) and Sen. Tom Harkin (DIA).

· On Sunday, April 16 the GN will hold an International Peace in Space Strategy Meeting at American University (participating will be activists from around the world who work on space issues.)

· On Monday, April 17 Keep Space for Peace lobby day will take place on Capitol hill.

"In order to enforce corporate globalization the U.S. Space Command has been given the job of space control and domination. Space will become the military instrument by which the corporations will attempt to hold down the 'havenots' in order for the 'haves' to continue their control of markets and resources," said GN Coordinator Bruce Gagnon.

The GN is made up of over 100 affiliate groups around the world and was founded in 1992. Each year the organization meets in a different part of the world in order to promote the need for an international ban on weapons in space.
