TENTING IN THE PARK

This is the scene today in Lafayette Park, across Pennsylvania Avenue from the White House, where a group of homeless and jobless Mississippi Negroes have pitched four tents to dramatize their plea for $1.3 million in anti-poverty funds. The 90 demonstrators, residents of tent cities near Greenville and Greenwood, took turns squatting and sleeping in the tents. A statue of Gen. Andrew Jackson, which centers the park, is at lower left. (AP WIREPHOTO)(See AP Wire Story)(rbo21215ct) 1966
