Letter to Barbara Bush

1/24/89

Dear Mrs. Bush,

I want to thank you for waving and smiling at me Sunday when you passed me, my black dog, and a sign reading "Grey Panthers on the Prowl say Take the Profit Out of Arms," at the entrance to the Washington Cathedral.

I was out of my customary stomping grounds that day, having come to pray with and for you and your husband at the Interfaith Prayer Circle, which was held in the triangle south of the cathedral.

Actually, I'm one of your closest neighbors, for my husband and I help keep the Peace Park Antinuclear Vigil in Lafayette Square.

As my birthday present to myself, and a warm welcome to you, I enclose a gift: an original of the first printing of PEACE RELEASE - a Magazine for Conscientious Thinkers (Vol II, No 1)

I hope someday we may have the pleasure of sharing smiles with you face-to-face -- perhaps in Peace Park? We have much that is hopeful to say. I pray you will listen.

God bless you in this momentous task -- nursing the planet toward peace
