APPELLANT ELLEN THOMAS' OPPOSITION TO FEDERAL APPELLEES'
MOTION FOR SUMMARY AFFIRMANCE

Since April 13, 1984 I have been exercising my religious belief outside the White House, by sacrificing the comforts of living accommodations to communicate to all who will listen or read my conviction that nuclear weapons are demonic devices which are leading us to extinction, in direct disobedience to God's will that we love one another, and live harmlessly and without fear. I believe fervently that it's only due to God's direction and love that I have been able to withstand both the elements and human persecution during the course of my vigil as a prophet outside the gates of power, and have been able to help hundreds of homeless people survive.

During this vigil various police officers have beaten and arrested me, stolen my signs and literature, and mistreated dozens of others in my presence.

Having been raised a patriotic American, I'm convinced my activities, which are completely harmless, are protected by the First Amendment.

Unless the authorities are above the law, I believe I'm

entitled to a hearing on the issues which have been exhaustively presented in the pleadings below.

As I'm indigent, I haven't been able to afford an attorney to represent my interests in arguing against the appellees' artful and infuriating pleadings.

I pray you will give us our day in court.

Respectfully submitted,

Ellen Thomas, Appellant pro se
