To Whom it May Concern:

On Sunday, February 24, 1991, I witnessed an act of police brutality in Lafayette Park. The police, in an attempt to break apart a ring formed around the drummers, began pulling people away and arresting them. I saw a Park Police officer hit a man in the head or back with his nightstick as the man lay face down on the ground. The man was wearing a blue parka or some kind of blue nylon coat. The police officer, having leaned over the man and hit him then stood up straight again and looked as if he were about to walk away and not place the victim under arrest. A protestor walked over then to help the man off the ground, and the police man shoved him away with his nightstick and his hand. I believe the man on the ground was then placed under arrest.

This account is to the best of my recollection.
