NOTICE TO THE PUBLIC
Temporary Closures Regarding Lafayette Park
White House Sidewalk

This updates the National Park Service's closure notice dated November 12, 1996. Additional portions of Lafayette Park, as well of portions of the White House sidewalk, will be closed to the public until January 31, 1997. These closures are necessary for the construction and later dismantling of viewing stands and various components for the 1997 Presidential Inauguration which will be held on January 20, 1997. As construction progresses, these closed portions will be identified by fencing.

Persons demonstrating or otherwise using these fenced closed areas should remove themselves and any personal property immediately. The remaining open portions of Lafayette Park and the White House sidewalk may be used until closed. The northeast quadrant of Lafayette Park will remain open throughout the Presidential Inauguration period.

The National Park Service appreciates the Public's Cooperation in this matter.
