William Thomas P.O. Box 27217 Washington, D.C. 20038 July 12, 1989 Bill Hallenbeck 92 Holbrooke Road White Plains, New York Dear Dad: It was a very pleasant surprise to see you last month. It was a disappointment that we weren't able to meet a last time before you left. Enclosed are a copy of a letter to the D.C. Court of Appeals, the decision to which the letter refers, and a narration, with pictures, of the event with which the appeal dealt. The only photographs allowed at the trial were those of the sign burning and the damage to the pillar. All of the other photographs were not permitted to be introduced as evidence because the judge held that they might prejudice the jury against the government. Although our conversations were enjoyable it seems rather likely that I don't understand what you're saying, you don't understand what I'm saying, or one or both of us are failing to see reality accurately. In any event I strongly believe that we could resolve our misunderstanding if we could only find the time to talk, or correspond, about it. Hoping to hear from you soon. Love,
