Chinese Embassy Bombed by NATO
Three Journalists Killed, More Than 20 Injured

At 17:45 (ET) on May 7, NATO brazenly fired 3 missiles from different angles to attack the Embassy of the People's Republic of China in Yugoslavia, which KILLED 3 Chinese journalists and injured more than 20. The building of the embassy was seriously damaged.

Chinese Embassy is a representation of china, NATO's bombing at the Chinese embassy in Belgrade was a flagrant violation of the sovereignty of China, United Nations Charter, and international laws.

We,Chinese students and scholars,feel extremely astonished and furious at such outrage committed by NATO in the name of peace and human rights.Without comprehensive, fair investigation and convincing explanation, apologies alone are not enough.

I) Will you use a 5-year-old map for traveling? But NATO told us that they used that old map to select bombing targets.Where were those advanced military expertise and technologies hiding?

2) Do you believe that they really didn't know where the exact location of Chinese Embassy is? As a matter of fact, the western countries' military attaches were often invited to the embassy.

3) Three U.S. soldiers' lives are important.How about those of the three Chinese journalists?

NATO must conduct comprehensive and fair investigation on the bombing of Chinese Embassy,and reveal the investigation results to the international community ASAP!

The newlyweds, Xu Xinghu and Zhu Ying,two young journalists, were killed by NATO.

FACTS

Three Chinese died and more than 20 were injured af-ter NATO fired bombs on the Chinese Embassy in Yugoslavia around midnight last Friday.Among the dead were two Chinese journalists.-ABC News.
Reportedly around 60 people were at the embassy at the moment of the attack. -Reuters.

Eyewitnesses said three bombs hit the embassy building from different directions.-- China Daily

China demanded an official apology from NATO for bombing its Belgrade Embassy and severe punishment for those responsible. It also called for a complete inve-stigation and a public announcement of the results. Reuters (May 11 )

"Calm returned to the streets of China on Tuesday ... Beijing's diplomatic district was calm with no sign of demonstrators who had besieged the U.S. and British embassies for three days to protest against the attack which killed three Chinese journalists and injured more than 20 on Friday." - Reuters (May 11)

U.S. officials and NATO said the attack on the Chinese Embassy was "a mistake" based on "faulty information" that the (Chinese embassy) building was the headquarters for the Yugoslav arms agency. - Reuters (May 11)

The Chinese Embassy has been housed at its present location for nearly four years. Its site was clearly marked on tourist maps that are on sale internationally. Its address is listed in the Belgrade telephone directory. Besides public maps, US intelligence agencies have access to satellite reconnaissance and other hightechnology surveillance, for which some $29 billion is budgeted annually

China is a permanent member of the U.N.Security Council with veto rights. It has been strongly opposed to the NATO bombing, stressing that the entire operation violated the "territorial integrity" of a national state. - AP
