Scott C. Addison (312-525-7163 ... V&F)PCU Council of Volunteers
CONSENSUS: July5, 1994* Bridger National Forest -- Big Piney, Wyoming
[Version a: Transcribed w/ spellcheck from Starfire's hand draft, as
signed] << Those who decide to work should not be obstructed!!!
The original purpose of PCU was to develop a broad-based coalition
to oppose violations of inalienable rights in the National Forests.
PCU defines itself as a coalition of volunteers who are individuals
working in affinity to protect Constitutional rights on public land,
as well as the sanctity of Mother Earth. PCU does not represent the
Rainbow Family.
The Forest Service press release in May shows that our efforts
weren't wasted. Provided we can resolve our differences & work in
unity, we are in a better position now to confront the Forest Service
to defend our right to gather. In the future, through a new petition
& letter-writing campaign, as well as media & organizational outreach,
PCU intends to continue to fight the promulation of new rules this
fall, and/or whenever regulations are re-proposed. We will continue
to push for public hearings.
We hope to have local affinity groups working together in
cooperation around the country. We would like to work in open &
honest cooperation with other individuals & groups of individuals who
share our commitment to protecting our inalienable right to gather.
[Version b: Amended for clarity, to be approved by signers -- SCA]
(1) People for Compassion and Understanding ('PCU' ) is a coalition of
individual volunteers working in affinity to protect Constitutional
rights on public land, and the sanctity of Mother Earth. It was
formed by consensus in July 1993 to develop a broad-based campaign to
oppose U.S. Forest Service rules that would violate inalienable rights
in the National Forests. PCU does not represent the Rainbow Family.
(2) The Forest Service press release on May 18 shows that our efforts
were not wasted. Provided we can resolve differences among allies and
work in unity, we are in a better position now to confront the Forest
Service and force real policy changes, supporting free assembly &
security on public land. Those who choose to work should not be
obstructed.
(3) In the future -- through a new petition & letter-writing campaign,
as well as outreach to media & organizations -- PCU intends to
continue to fight the promulation of new rules this Fall, and/or
whenever regulations are re-proposed. We will continue to push for
public hearings.
(4) We hope to build a network of local affinity groups working
together around the country. We would like to work in open & honest
cooperation with other individuals & groups of individuals who share
our commitment to protecting our inalienable right to gather.
